Have you thought about preparing for a disaster? In the SF Bay we haven't had a Katrina, Haiti, Mid-West or Fukishima Japan level disaster in a while. Because of that we have become pretty…Continue

Water Hyacinth as supplemental water filtration.

Anyone use Water Hyacinth as supplemental filtration? I'm thinking that if my grow bed is too small for the fish density I would add some water hyacinth to help keep the water clean. I can pull the…Continue

I use it as a tonic for my aquarium fish. It lowers the pH slightly and provides tea colored water which helps with algae control. Here is some info:…Continue

"Roger, yes you want the water to enter the fish tank above the water line and you want the outflow from the fish tank to be up high enough that the water level in the fish tank will remain fairly stable.  The grow beds are what will fluctuate…"

"The switch itself controls the power that goes through the plug. Once the switch hits the level that you want, it will make the connection inside of the switch housing and the current will flow through turning on the pump."

"Yep. You will be able to adjust the float level to where ever you need it."

"Jim - So, if I rubberbanded the tether switch to where it would turn on at 4 inches of water depth in the sump tank,  would it cut the pump on as long as the pump was plugged into the back of the tether switch power plug? "

Jim Rusk commented on Chi Ma's group Aquaponics For Beginners
"This tether is designed to just plug your pump into the piggyback plug. So it will work with both."

"Or could you plug the pump into the back of the tether cord power plug?"

Tom OBrien commented on Chi Ma's group Aquaponics For Beginners
"Roger - I have the same problem with sump tank size on my new system, so I just put the pump in the fish tank for now. You can buy a separate sump pump switch that will work with your FT pump and that do the trick as a safety switch if the water in…"

"Jim - Could this tether be connected a regular pump or only sump pumps?"
yesterday
Jim Rusk commented on Chi Ma's group Aquaponics For Beginners
"Roger, what you need is a tether sump switch. It can be added to your current sump pump. You can see one here.…"

"So I was thinking and I realized if I ran my sump pump water out to over the FT that would alleviate my earlier pressure question and help with aeration if I ran PVC across FT.  However, still not sure how I'm going to get the sump pump to…"

"I meant to ask one other question, even when I upgrade to a 60 gallon sump tank, it still is only going to be about 13" tall.  I was thinking about using a 1/8 HP sump pump b/c it has a float valve that would cut the pump on.…"

The big cray is still going strong. One batch of babies (2 that I pulled out) didn't make the trip in other tanks. I am still trying to get a handle on my crustaceans.

Hey Brah!!!!  I think the only thing this site is lacking is marketing and sales ideas, tips, experiences.  I suppose that is a better conversation for the commercial guys.  How are you doing?  Hope all is well!!!!

I was checking on the crays, and they are still doing well! No babies yet that I've seen, but I didn't look too terribly long. Thanks again!
