"From what i've seen and use usually ising a reducer on ur stand pipe helps create the suction going from a latger to a smaller size.also to break the siphon a snorkel helps. But restricting water flow is the best bet."

Problem with my bell siphon

I've made a bell siphon after the instructions in this video:Plastic bottle bell siphonWhen I tested it without substrate, pumping water from the bath tub, it worked well, and I managed to adjust the pump flow so that one ebb-and-flow cycle took about one hour. Please tell us something else about yourself.
I'll be setting up my first aquaponic system this year. (2012) The first one will be a greenhouse system with tilapia. Next I plan an outdoor system, probably with carp. I promote city farming in Scandinavia, and plan to spread the use of aquaponics.

Welcome Louise,

Thanks for joining the Aquaponic Gardening community!  I hope you find it a fun place to explore aquaponics.  There is a real blend of experienced and new aquapons in this community, so please don’t hesitate to get in there and start asking questions.  Everyone is quite happy to help out new members – no question is too basic.

A great place to start is to read the “How to Use This Site” link on the upper right corner, “Start Here” section of the Home page.  You might also find the “Aquaponic Gardening Rules of Thumb” guidelines helpful.

Please participate and check in with us every day!  We are constantly posting news about aquaponics and the good food movement.
