flood and drain media, System 1; Indoor, 29 and 20 gallon tanks bridged. 4 10 gallon rubbermaid growbeds with bell syphons. Currently (June 2010) 5 aquarium fish. Started Jan 2010, Cycled early March. It has a 400 watt MH light on a 4' lightrail for the plants.

System 2; Harbor Freight Greenhouse 10x12, Twin IBC's, cut at the 175g mark. 200 gallons of flood and drain growbed, 150 gallons FT, aprox 125g sump. System filled June 13 2010 ( new )

"When you system cools everything slows down together, plants, fish, and bacteria.  If you can keep your water from freezing you should be able to keep certain fish alive, and plants growing as well, they all just do it very slowly."

"I had a cherry tomato plant in my 8" indoor beds. It lived for 14 months and produced lots of tomatoes.  I think the deeper beds will process more solids, but if you aren't stocked to the max the shallower ones work well."

Thanks for the comment. I started the test systemto tryout a few varieties of veggies and lettuce to findo out how they would perform. The lettuce did exceptionally well. As for the small commercial system this has been in the works for 2 yrs now and I hope to start the system up in a month or so.

Taking it down.

It has been a week since I found a home for my goldfish.  It was a month before I asked for that home that I knew they had to go.  It was about two months ago the water started to warm a little and they started the wiggle dance at feed time. It was about three months ago I was out in the cold, trying to keep the water flowing in minus nineteen f.  It has been five and a half months since all their friends were netted out and eaten.
