Vlad Jovanovic said… Thanks for catching that Rupert, I've edited that blog and it's waiting for approval (seems to take about a day or less) to reflect the fact that you can't have the 'carbonates without the carbon' woops
As far as wine making shops go, you would be hard pressed to find one here, even though (or maybe because) every other villager makes their own (low quality)wine. The wine making forums here are full of comments bewildered, or perturbed about the fact that nobody can seem to buy KHCO3 here? Go figure. You can though purchase one of two products to regulate your wines pH (one of which lists KHCO3 as like 3rd on its ingredient list). The other product does not have an ingredient list? I've also called (and been to one) two laboratory supply/chemical supply places here. I can purchase all sorts of things (a lot of which I'd never be allowed to without some sort of permit/licence in the US), but no KHCO3?
Thanks for the suggestion though, in a normal setting that is great advice...2" square egded extruded polystyrene is another one that I've gone up the distro list all the way up to the two (different brands) main importers for those products here. They have no interest in special ordering anything. There have been other seemingly innocuous materials/products that are absent in this market. Fish food formulated for RAS is another one. Thanks again.
Rick Stillwagon said… Hi Rupert,
Thanks for the comment on the blog. I have corrected it. I was getting caught up in the looks of things and trying out different pics. I forgot that those images are proprietary and belong to others. I will look for public domain images and my own in the future. Thanks again.
Rick
Thanks for the encouragement Rupert,
I've been getting a kick out of them lately. I converted my system to commercial recently. things are going great but it takes a lot of time. I think I have the smallest commercial greenhouse ever now. Go vertical!
Hope you're doing well. . . It's been a while.

Hope you are well and that the weather has been kind to you..
Not sure if you have been blown away by the last few weeks of bad weather.. It looks very bad from Auckland.. Let us know how your and what has happening in your world of Aquaponics
I am just about ready to go to my first cycle and as you may already know we are limited to Gold Fish .. I have recently purchased Murray's DVD and it has been a real eye opener.
We are very much behind hind in NZ so I feel your wisdom and that of others in the community be valued.. My experience in other forms of horticulture particularly Deep Flow Technology and NFT will stand good as I am used to cutting up PVC and getting my hands dirty.. I hear my gold fish calling. Goto Go
Ps Thanks for being a friend..
Regards JohnNZ
