Shelfponics & Lego Robots at UCF Tomorrow - Life is Perfect!!!

Our FLL team, Lego Lightning, did a presentation on shelfponics at the Robopalooza tournament on January 7th, 2012.  The team had a blast building their system, which was based on the shelfponic system at GardenPool.org.  Many thanks to Dennis at GardenPool for allowing us to use their design.  We added wheels and will be adding grow lights to create a mobile design that can be used indoors as well as out.  We will be taking our system to UCF tomorrow to compete in the FLL…See More

Florida Grants

Hi all,If you go to http://www.flagintheclassroom.com/grants.html  you can apply for small grants (approx $500 to $2,000) in the spring and fall for your school.  You CANNOT use it for an aquaponics project because the rules don't allow animal waste used as fertilizer, but you can use it for aquaculture (try raising some breeders in a closed system or experiment with various breeds of fish). Fall grants are for teachers…See More

Green Acre Organics

This is a group for those that want to stay connected with Green Acre Organics. At Green Acre, we are focused on optimizing commercial growing with the newest techniques and technologies for integrated system growing.  Recognizing the value of integrating media bed growing into raft (DWC) technology, this hybrid aquaponics design optimizes nutrient density by allowing the additional metabolization of valuable solids typically removed from DWC systems. Why remove the most valuable element in an…See More

I am the robotics coordinator of Orlando Science Schools. This year's FLL robotics challenge is "Food Factor" - trying to improve food quality by reducing contamination. Our teams are interested possibly trying aquaponics as a means to raise sustainable veggies and fish while reducing contaminates and our carbon footprint. We would love to visit any local aquaponics farms to get ideas to see if this is something our teams can do. We are especially interested in small-scale backyard farming. Thanks, Marisa

Hi Marisa,

I wanted to touch base with you about your program.  I am the Managing Director of Green Acre Organics a commercial aquaponics farm in Brooksville.  Please feel free to contact me about touring our farm and how we might be of assistance.  You can email me here or at greenacreorganics@gmail.com  Thanks!

Welcome,

Thanks for joining the Aquaponic Gardening community!  I hope you find it a fun place to explore aquaponics.  There is a real blend of experienced and new aquapons in this community, so please don’t hesitate to get in there and start asking questions.  Everyone is quite happy to help out new members – no question is too basic.

A great place to start is to read the “How to Use This Site” link on the upper right corner, “Start Here” section of the Home page.  You might also find the “Aquaponic Gardening Rules of Thumb” guidelines helpful.

Please participate and check in with us every day!  We are constantly posting news about aquaponics and the good food movement.

Normally Sylvia Bernstein, the community's founder, would be welcoming you, but she is enjoying a well deserved vacation and I am helping out by welcoming new members in her absence.  I am certain she would be excited to have you join and she will be looking forward to getting to know you upon her return.  Thanks again for joining us, and I too look forward to getting to know you too.  See you around the site!
