Smart people... give them a call....
The Perch/Redfin... is banned in all but one state in Australia... and in NZ... AFAIK...
Comment by RupertofOZ on February 4, 2012 at 7:49pm Correction... the European Perch (not carp)... Perca fluviatilis.. is known as Redfin here in OZ....
And one of the fisheries institutes in NZ has successfully spawned/bred them... and is actually exporting the eggs...
Comment by RupertofOZ on February 4, 2012 at 7:28pm Here's the freshwater prawn farm links...

Comment by RupertofOZ on February 4, 2012 at 7:25pm eeEels are almost impossible to keep in tanks, or even ponds...
European Perch is basically "carp"...
Sea cucumbers, kina, lobstera, kingfish and hapuka... all require salt water...
There's a place up near Huka Falls that has been farming the freshwater prawn for years... I'll find the link for you....
But they need a constant water temperature of 24-28...
There's a bloke, or was... around Raglan... that had sucessfully bred and reared "whitebait"...

Comment by RupertofOZ on February 4, 2012 at 7:19pm Hummm... seems the "aquaponics.co.nz" links are no longer working.. maybe the project has folded..
Comment by RupertofOZ on February 4, 2012 at 7:17pm Tena koe, Kia ora.... or as they no doubt say these days... hey bro...
You're absolutely right... and I'm doubtful with regard to Chinook... trout are definitely banned...
Grass Carp are apparantly allowed... and Wilson Lennard stocked the hydro/aquaponics conversion of Tasman Bay Herbs... with them...
Wilson Lennard only converted a small portion of the hydro operation as a trial... and has since moved on to a project at Ceres in Melbourne...
But the NZ venture attracted a backer... Ashley Berrysmith ... and the project is trying to continue...

You can read a bit about it ....

They've run a couple of open days...
http://www.aquaponics.co.nz/news/news-articles/aquaponic-trial-site...
Which got covered by TV... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3javGiL-dDc
They discovered the problem that we share hear in OZ.... winter time means low feed rates... lower nutrients...
